BARC welcomes Varun Ramanathan

Staff News

BARC welcomes new Postdoc Varun Ramanathan to the team.

Varun Ramanathan joined the BARC team at UCPH on February 1, 2026 as a Postdoc working with Srikanth Srinivasan.

Varun (he/him/his) grew up in Delhi. He finished his Bachelor's degree in CS and Math at IIIT Delhi, and a PhD in CS at TIFR Mumbai. He is interested in complexity theory, coding theory and allied areas. During his PhD, he has mostly worked in algebraic complexity, with a focus on derandomizing multivariate polynomial factorization and visited BARC in 2025. He is always excited to be a sounding board for your ideas, regardless of your area of research.

Varun loves to play the Mridangam (a South Indian percussive instrument) as well as the drums. He also likes beatboxing. He loves running, hiking and reading books. He is hoping to learn some bouldering/climbing during his postdoc. If you spend enough time talking to him, he will bore you with poor jokes and puns.
