BARC welcomes two new Faculty in 2023
BARC has had a great year - partly because we got to welcome terrific new researchers to the team. Read more about two of them here; Srikanth Srinivasan and Amir Yehudayoff.
Amir Yehudayoff joined the team on July 1 2023 and is interested in the mathematical theory of computer science, and specifically in the theory of machine learning. His recent works investigate connections between several properties in ML: compression, stability, privacy, online learning and replicability. He is looking forward to joining BARC and sharing the research process with the BARC community.
Amir did his Ph.D. at the Weizmann Institute and was later a postdoc at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Since 2010, he has been a member of the faculty of mathematics in the Technion-IIT.
In his free time, Amir enjoys bouldering and spending time with his two boys.
Srikanth Srinivasan started as an associate professor in the AC section on September 1, 2023. Before DIKU, he spent three wonderful years as faculty at Aarhus University and eight wonderful years as faculty at the mathematics department at IIT Bombay.
Srikanth's research interests lie in the general area of computational complexity, where we try to understand what makes a computational problem inherently difficult to solve. He is also interested in finding hay in haystacks.
In his spare time, Srikanth enjoys badminton, hiking, and the feeling of being done with a run.
Srikanth has recently received an ERC grant. Read more about the grant on AU's homepage
With these additions to the AC section and BARC, we have secured a very strong connection between Algorithms and Complexity as well as more expertise in Machine Learning aspects of basic algorithmic research. Welcome to the team, we look forward to great collaborations in the future.
