BARC welcomes Nima Dolatabadi
BARC welcomes new PhD student Nima Dolatabadi to the team.
Nima Dolatabadi joined the BARC team on September 1, 2026 as an integrated PhD student under the supervision of Mikkel Thorup.
Nima received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. His undergraduate thesis is about Minimum Cost Markov Chains and a geometric iterative algorithm for computing them.
Nima's research interests include graph algorithms in different models of computation, such as distributed, dynamic, and streaming models. He also enjoys learning and thinking about algebraic structures and their applications in combinatorics and TCS.
On the personal side Nima is a passionate art lover with a deep appreciation for poetry, literature, and music—especially Iranian classical, Bach, and Chopin. He also plays the santoor, a traditional trapezoidal hammered dulcimer with 72 strings arranged in courses of four over 18 movable wooden bridges. When Nima is not playing or reading, he enjoys coaching high school students for the Math Olympiad and designing challenging mathematical problems for such competitions.

Welcome Nima, you are a wonderful fit for our team!
