BARC welcomes Florestan Brunck
BARC welcomes new PhD student Florestan Brunck to the team.
Florestan joined BARC on August 1st as a PhD student to work with Professor Amir Yehudayoff on problems at the intersection of geometry, topology and learning theory. He previously visited Mikkel Abrahamsen's group to work on non-obtuse triangulations and is excited to continue tackling a few open conjectures together.
He graduated with a MSc in pure mathematics from McGill University where he worked on metric geometry and geometric group theory. Before joining BARC, he worked at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria under the supervision of Uli Wagner, Herbert Edelsbrunner and Matthew Kwan, where his recent research has focused on discrete and computational geometry and topology. He is happiest when working on abstract mathematics that naturally arise from concrete problems - or when beautiful mathematics find natural applications.
In his spare time, he enjoys running a bit slower than Joel Andersson, composing music, or building wooden puzzles that aim to bring interesting mathematics to a wider audience.
