BARC Retreat 2024 to Austria
The BARC group visited Innsbruck in Austria on the yearly retreat.
Every year the BARC group goes on a retreat. We switch between going to different places in Denmark to show our team around in their host country, and going to destinations abroad, often to the home country of one of our international colleagues, adding a personal touch to the experience. Away from the office we typically take the opportunity to have meta discussions about research and dive deep into the proceedings of some of the major conferences in the field to uncover and discuss new results and possibilities.
This year we went to Innsbruck in Austria from October 14 to October 18, 2024. The journey by night train kickstarted the main goal of the yearly retreat: strengthening the social ties within the group. In high spirits our team of 29 BARC'ies boarded the train and with eight new members joining since August this was a great way to spend time together!
The program for this year’s retreat comprised of hiking, a talk about “how to pitch your research”, lots of good meals, philosophic discussions about definitions, more hiking, group deliberations on the FOCS’24 proceedings, board games, a result presentation, waterfalls and a show on Austrian culture. What a week and all of this in stunning mountainous scenery and beautiful autumn weather!
