BARC 'n Bowl

Team Building

A new sport in the BARC portfolio

This year’s traditional Easter party at BARC was swapped for an evening of fun, sportsmanship, and knocking over pins!

Maybe we still need a little more practice before aiming for the national bowling league, but we certainly had a great time. After several busy weeks leading up to Easter, filled with deadlines and deliverables, a trip to the bowling alley felt like the perfect way to shake things up a bit.

We started out the evening at the bowling alley and then ordered a bunch of burgers for the whole group. During dinner, we celebrated the standout bowlers from each team before moving on to indoor mini golf. Was it mathematical talent that helped us calculate the best angles and optimal paths, or was it simply luck on the green? We may never know — but mini golf has now officially been accepted as a new discipline in BARC’s sporting portfolio.

And the athletic spirit at BARC certainly does not stop there. Among us are enthusiastic climbers, passionate table tennis players, and dedicated runners tackling both half and full marathons. A particularly hardy group of researchers has even been running and swimming throughout the entire winter season and continues to meet every Thursday afternoon. From our new location, it is only a pleasant 3 km run to the popular Nordhavn Harbour Bath, where a refreshing dip in the public swimming area is free and open year-round. During summer, the more leisurely among us prefer to join for a swim and an ice cream, while leaving the serious running to the runners 😊

So, if you find yourself in the Copenhagen area and overhear conversations about polynomials at a bouldering gym, hash functions along the city’s running paths, Gaussian noise during a table tennis match, or paper deadlines and rebuttals at the beach — then it is probably us!
