An effort for the work environment

BARC

Raising awareness and making an effort for the work environment at the centre.

On April 29, DARMA — the Danish Association of Research Managers and Administrators — held its annual workshop for the Post Award Special Interest Group at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense.

This year’s workshop focused on emotional labour: how it manifests, develops, and is managed within research facilities across Denmark. The event brought together research management and administration professionals from institutions around the country, and BARC’s Centre Administrator, Anne Primdahl Kristensen gave a presentation on the topic.

Portrait of Anne Primdahl KristensenAnne has been part of BARC since the centre opened its doors in 2017. In addition to her role as Centre Administrator, she also serves as Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator for the Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen. Over the years, she has worked extensively with the social structure of BARC and, together with the Steering Committee, has made an effort to secure a healthy and inspirational work environment at BARC.

Alongside this work, Anne has initiated a field study of research environments in theoretical computer science by collecting data through in-depth interviews with researcher not only at the University of Copenhagen and the IT University of Copenhagen, but also institutions such as KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Germany. Her aim is mapping out the balance point between strong qualitative output and professional wellbeing in high performing academic research groups.

Although the study is still ongoing, several adjustments and initiatives inspired by the preliminary findings have already been implemented at BARC and have received very positive feedback. We look forward to following the continued development and results of Anne’s work.
